This session will explore the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program history and purpose. Additional sources of funding will be discussed as well as the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and regulatory requirements.

Long-Term Metabolic Consequences of ARV Therapy

The use of effective antiretroviral (ARV) therapy has resulted in tremendous improvements in morbidity and mortality in HIV-infected individuals. However, increasing reports of metabolic abnormalities such as impaired glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemias have also been associated with the widespread use of effective ARV regimens. Metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, lipodystrophy, lipoatrophy and treatment will be explored during this discussion.

Diet, Nutrition and HIV

Weight loss, wasting, and malnutrition continue to be common problems in HIV, despite more effective antiretroviral medications, and can contribute to HIV disease progression. Good nutrition helps keep the immune system strong while a healthy diet improves quality of life.

HIV Trivia Game

The HIV Trivia (Heist®) Game is an interactive, classic questions-in-categories format session developed as a learning tool for the many varied topics associated with HIV. The audience will participate in teams with victory going to those with the most points at the end.

Nursing Quality Improvement
Elizabeth Piantadosi, BSM
Ongoing improvement of the delivery, quality, efficiency, and outcome of patient care and services will be discussed during this presentation. Topics related to evidenced-based practices, electronic charting, HIPPA guidelines, and implementation of the same will be included.

Oral Health

HIV-infected patients are at special risk for oral health problems secondary to an altered immune system. This session will explore common and uncommon oral ailments in HIV-infected patients and dental care in general.

Dermatological Manifestations

Skin lesions occur in virtually all patients during the evolution of their HIV infection, often in a succession of conditions that mirror their gradual decline of immunity. Participants will examine dermatological manifestations throughout the progression of the HIV-infection. Examples of the skin diseases will be shown along with treatment considerations.
